Roger Hoover is a versatile play-by-play broadcaster with two decades of experience in collegiate and professional sports.

Hoover currently broadcasts University of Alabama athletics on the Crimson Tide Sports Network (Learfield). He is the host for Alabama football across a nearly 100-station network, in addition to play-by-play work for Crimson Tide basketball and baseball. In his 12 years of experience in Tuscaloosa, Hoover has hosted three College Football Playoff National Championship Games, a men’s basketball Final Four appearance, and provided play-by-play for Alabama baseball’s run to the 2026 College World Series.

He has also hosted “Hey Coach” radio shows with Alabama football head coach Kalen DeBoer and men’s basketball head coach Nate Oats. His full-time role for Learfield includes being the Social Content Manager for the network, hosting podcasts and video shows to generate additional revenue for Alabama Athletics.

Hoover also provides play-by-play for SEC Network+ broadcasts of basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and gymnastics. His national play-by-play work on Sirius XM Radio includes the SEC baseball and soccer tournaments for the SEC Radio Network.

Hoover spent 12 years broadcasting professional baseball, with eight years as the Director of Broadcasting and radio/television play-by-play announcer for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (previously Suns). Hoover’s experience in baseball also includes calling play-by-play for select Miami Marlins major league spring training games for five seasons from 2016-2020, in broadcasts produced by the Marlins Radio Network for MLB.com and the MLB At-Bat app.

Hoover, the 2018 Southern League Radio Broadcaster of the Year, also provided play-by-play for the Tennessee Smokies and Kingsport Mets before joining Jacksonville in 2011.

Hoover graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2010 and began his broadcasting career as a reporter and play-by-play announcer with the Vol Network in 2006. He previously provided play-by-play for Maryville College football and basketball (2010-12), Carson-Newman University basketball (2012-14), before starting his role with Alabama in 2014.

Hoover and his wife Lanzi reside in Birmingham with their son Carson.
